About BDSL Kickball
Welcome to Big Dog Sports League’s Coed Kickball League in Houma. Kickball is a great way for adults to stay active, meet new people and have fun! BDSL Kickball brings a fresh new twist to the adult recreational sports scene. Kickball... yes, just like you played in 5th grade, is a game that closes the age and gender gap, if but a little.
We at Big Dog Sports Kickball encourage rivalries, cheering, and general fun; but if you are an individual looking for an extremely competitive sport, our leagues may not be for you. Remember, it's just kickball, you can’t really get that worked up or mad about anything…it is just kickball!
The idea behind kickball - past and present - is to have fun first, win second. Win or lose, what's better than being out there having fun with friends? And...the upside of kickball for grown-ups is the chance to go to a local sponsor bar after the game, socialize and hang out.

FAQ:
Q: What is KICKBALL?
A: Kickball (courtesy of Wikipedia) is a playground game and also a competitive
league game, similar to baseball, invented in the United States in about 1942.
American World War II correspondent, Ernie Pyle, reported it being played by
U.S. soldiers during the North African campaign, 1942-1943. It is typically played
on a softball diamond with a 10- to 16- inch (250- to 400 ) inflated rubber ball.
The pitcher bowls the ball towards the catcher, and the “batter” kicks it with his
foot. In some games, batters request a certain type of pitch — rolling, bouncing
slightly, or bouncing 1’ to 2’ off the ground. Once the ball, is kicked, the batter’s
objective is to get to reach base. In addition to tagging a base to get a forced
runner out, or getting a runner out by touching him/her with a held ball, fielders
may throw the ball at a runner to get him/her out (though hitting a runner above
the shoulders with a thrown ball is often either discouraged or illegal; the latter
being the more common rule.)
Q: Where do you play?
A: We play at several parks and at schools around the Houma-Thibodaux area.
Check the Schedule page for exact locations and game times.
Q: When are the leagues?
A: Spring, Summer & Fall
Q: When can I register?
A: Registration opens approximately 6 weeks before the season starts.
Q: Where can I register?
A: We accept registration through email, over the phone, and we will usually hold an
open registration session at the league sponsor bar or hosting facility. Check
our site to see when & where.
Q: How many players on a team?
A: 10 players on the field, rosters capped at 15, everyone bats, coed format-
minimum 4 women on the field.
Q: Can I field an all-male team?
A: No can do….coed or bust! If you check out the rules page you will learn that you
must have at least four males and four females in the outfield at all times.
Q: Can I get a copy of the rules?
A: Upon registration, team captains will receive the full Kickball Rulebook.
Q: How much to be a part of this?
A: Registration is $330 for a team or $35 as an individual. Signing up ‘Indy’ will
not guarantee placement on a team but it is likely we will find a spot for you. If
for some reason we cannot place you on a team your dues will be
reimbursed.
Q: What will I get?
A: You & your team will play 9 regular season games plus playoffs (everybody
makes the playoffs!), you will also get a t-shirt and an invitation to the lively end-
of-season party!
Q: End of season party?!
A: Yep… at the end of the league, we will have our playoffs to determine the season
champion. At our end of season party, all kickballers are invited to celebrate and
start looking towards the next season.
Q: Budweiser is your sponsor? SWEET! Can we booze on the fields?
A: Yes and no. Occasionally our host location will allow our players to consume frosty beverages while playing. However, a lot of our fields are acquired through Terrebonne Parish Recreation, public and private schools. Since the kids cannot drink or smoke at school neither can we because: ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO ARE PROHIBITED ON SCHOOL FIELDS.
When we secure fields that allow alcohol we will also purchase alcohol permits. Thus, you can drink your BL smoothies and cheer for your teammates as they bunt, boot and/or rally around the bases on these fields.
Q: I’d like to feature you in our magazine / newspaper, can I do that?
A: Sure thing! We always have time for the press, please contact our director:
