Q: I'm not the greatest athlete, but I'd like to come out and play with you guys... will the leagues be too competitive for me?
A: No worries. Our sports leagues are fairly laid back and have divisions for everyday Big Dogs. If you're still nervous about playing in a sport like flag football, volleyball or softball, check out some of our leisure leagues like dodgeball and kickball – big on fun and low on skill.
Q: How can I get involved without playing in the leagues?
A: There are ways you can get involved with BDSL without playing in the leagues. Officiating is a very important part of what we do. No experience necessary, however familiarity with the sport is a plus. For more information on Refereeing please email info@bigdogsportsleague.com
As for sports, you can pass on the word to someone you know who does want to play and then root them on at their games!! We also offer social events, happy hours and volunteer prospects for those individuals who don’t play sports. Who out there doesn’t enjoy a happy hour special?
Q: Is there a minimum age requirement?
A: YES! All players must be 18 years or older.
Q: How much is membership?
A: Membership is FREE. There are no yearly fees and you only have to attend the events that interest you. No matter the range of your interests, we will provide something for you whether it be happy hour parties, business socials, product launches, concerts or adult recreational sports leagues. Your free membership to Big Dog Sports League will be your key to networking, socializing and having a great time in Houma.
Q: Where are the sports located?
BDSL runs the leagues all over Houma, and again, for each sport it varies.
Check out your desired sports’ webpage for more specific information.
Directions will also be on our website.
Q: Your refs and umps are so witty and good looking...can I ask them out on a date?
A: No.
Sports Registration
Q:What are the different ways to sign up and how do they work?
A: For all signups, you may register online, by email or by phone.
You can register through our website: click here ,
email info@bigdogsportsleague.com.
We offer team, small group and individual registration. Registration fees can be in the form of a check, cash or credit/debit card. A BDSL staffer will contact you once your registration is turned in. All registration fees MUST be paid in full on or before the first date of the regular season or you will be assessed late or cancellation fees.
Q: How do I pay for the leagues?
A: You are welcome to pay in any of the following ways:
- Online-via credit card (coming soon)
- By direct mail-via check or credit card number
- By fax-via credit card
- Occasionally you may bring a check, cash or credit card to the facility/field your sport is scheduled to take place. We will notify everyone if this is an option.
Q: What is the deadline to register for leagues?
A: There are some sports where the deadline to sign up can come as early as a month before the start of the league.
As a general rule for all sports, we say that there is no deadline to sign up, but as soon as the event reaches maximum capacity we will close off the registration to new signups.
We do our best to notify small groups that have not yet filled up as to a new deadline of when they must get the rest of their team members signed up.
After that deadline there is no guarantee of them being placed on your team as all registered players at that time will be combined to form teams Some leagues fill quicker than others so PLEASE REGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Q: Can you hold me a spot?
A: No. All leagues are on a first come first serve basis. Unless you have paid your registration fee or secured your spot with a credit card you are not guaranteed a spot in the league.
Q: What if we have a sponsor check?
A: Many of our teams are sponsored by local businesses. We gladly accept checks from sponsors; however they must be in before the beginning of the league. If you pay for the league before you receive a sponsor check we will exchange the sponsor check for the league fees already paid.
Q: What if I don’t have my own team?
A: No problem. If you do not have your own team you may register as an individual or small group. We will then put you on a team with others who have signed up as individuals or small groups.
Schedule Information
Q: When can I expect to hear about my team or schedule for the league I signed up for?
A: Individuals can expect to hear about his/her team once the team is completed, usually the week before the league starts. We will send team contact information to individuals as the team is formed. When the league is full and all teams are confirmed we will post a schedule on the website.
