About BDSL Dodgeball
It's time for everyone's favorite game from gym class, Dodgeball! If you thought it was fun in the 4th grade, wait until you give it a try as a 'grown-up.' And after you've thrown the red rubber at some strangers (and dodged a few tosses, yourself), you can go have a drink with them at the league sponsor bar.

Some Rules:
Here's a brief overview of the Big Dog Sports Dodgeball League Format. A full rulebook is provided to team Captains upon sign-up:
- 6 players to start a game, teams can have up to 10 rostered players. All teams co-ed and every team must play a minimum of 3 females on the court for each game (We recommend 3 guys & 3 gals)
- There are as many games in a 20min Match as time allows.
- Throw players out by hitting them (below the neck, NO intentional head shots) with a thrown ball or knocking a ball out of their hands that they are using to block.
- Catching a thrown ball will get the thrower out... and put an eliminated teammate back in the game.
- A ball is Live until it hits the ground or an ‘out of play’ area. Only a Live Ball can get someone out (no bounces or deflections).
- All Matches will be officiated - however, the Honor Rule and good sportsmanship are in effect. This is grown-up Dodgeball... if you know you got hit, please leave the court (you'll get 'em in a couple minutes during the next game).
FAQ:
What is Dodgeball?
Well, either you are one of the lucky ones who weren’t forced into this humiliating P.E. experience or you were born after 1985 in which case it was already banned from schools to save your self esteem.
Dodgeball, (bombardment, war ball, prison ball, etc) is a game that is mostly played in physical education classes in elementary school. Two teams of equal size face off in a gymnasium, armed with red rubber balls. Players try to eliminate the other team by throwing the balls at their opponents. Players are called “out” if hit with the ball and are banished to the “out line.” The team who eliminates their opponents first is the winner. For more information on Big Dog Dodgeball practices, check out our rules.
When are the leagues?
We host Dodgeball in our Winter, Spring & Fall seasons. Dodgeball goes on hiatus for Summer which may seem to go against the natural order of things but then again, Dodgeball is maybe an unnatural sport.
Where do you play?
Our league is currently hosted at the Bayou Black Gym in Houma.
Always check the schedule for exact locations and game times.
When can I register?
Registration opens approximately 6 weeks before the
league starts.
How many players on a team?
Teams range in size from 6-10 players. Since you host up to 6 players on the court at a time, you want to make sure that you have subs available and don’t forget Ball Shaggers! Remember, active players cannot leave the boundaries to retrieve balls so make sure you have 1 or 2 Ball Shaggers (they can be inactive players, friends or strangers) Teams are capped at 10 players.
Can I field an all-male team?
Sorry… co-ed or bust! If you check out the rules page, you host up to 6 players and have a minimum of one male and three females on the court to start all games. Sign up for updates and we’ll keep you posted on all-male tournaments.
How much to be a part of this?
$230 per team will get you in the league, t-shirts for your team and a lively end-of-season party!
End of season party?!
Yep…at the end of the season, we’ll have our playoff tourney to determine the league champion. Usually the following Friday night we’ll celebrate the season and finish it off with a Flip Cup throwdown at our sponsor bar.
